Today is the greatest...

Alex is taking a nap in mommy's lap, daddy is reading and we are listening to Smashing Pumpkins lullabies. We are very happy that Dr. Handler came to see Alex early this morning to make a decision about the surgery. The nurses never had to start an IV or stop her feedings which made mommy's day. I really wasn't mentally prepared for another surgery so soon so I am thanking God for answered prayers.

We are still working on feedings as Alex is still learning the concept of suck, swallow, breathe. She has to have this down before she can go home. Mommy and daddy have to learn a few things too - we have become pretty dependent on the vital statistics monitor when feeding Alex. The past couple of days we have been learning to read her signs instead of looking up at the monitor in response to the constant beeping noises it makes or to see if she is taking enough breaths.

The Neonatologist came up with a plan to discharge Alex and if everything goes well she will be going home on Wednesday afternoon. We are so excited to take our sweet baby girl home with us. Thanks for all of the comments today, we've been checking every few hours.

Peace & Love

Shelby and I cannot help but read your blog daily and cheer you guys on and pray for you. We understand, to a certain degree, the incredible place in which you now stand. It can be a scary place, but at the same moment in time, a wonderful place where you learn what it is to trust in the Lord with all your heart, and what an amazing sensation it is when the Creator answers your prayers. As I read through your writings, I can't help but think of the scriptural story of Rizpah, who was a mother who cried out to God for her sons. Her motherly love for them did not cease even when they had passed away. God heard her prayer and did not allow it to rain until King David responded to her cries. I believe God has heard your heart-felt prayers and has been moved to action. Praise God!We think about you daily and remember you always in our prayers. Grace and Peace to you! Five Blue!

I am very happy that you have seen positive answers to your prayers (and those of so many others). I feel like I know a little about the power of collective prayer (thanks for your past & continuing prayers). I am even more happy that you realize how God used Alex and you to positively influence so many.
Blessings,

Wonderful news, guys! Thank you again for the gift of letting me catch a peek of tiny Alex while she slept on Sunday. That is a memory I will keep forever, seeing her for the first time. She is a precious miracle. Our Father planned her from before time began, knit her together "fearfully and wonderfully," and He is using her to knit lives and hearts together now. She will continue to touch lives and be used by Him as she grows--and His plan for her is never-ending. Thank God for this outcome and we'll continue to lift Alex up and join you in praying for our heart's desires for your family. Blessings and let us know how day 1 at home went... Stephanie

Jesus loves her,this I know
for the Bible tells us so
little ones to Him belong
she is weak, but He is strong
Yes, Jesus loves her...Yes Jesus loves her...I know you know the rest. For some reason, that song has been going through my mind a lot when I think about Alex. I thought I would share this reminder. As much as you both love her, God loves her even more! Isn't that AWESOME! We love our kids so much, it hurts...but so does He. I hope that makes you smile. I know you are exhausted, but you both are looking incredibly handsome and beautiful in the pics. Of course, Alex steals the scene!!!! You are no longer Jimmy and Nicole, but Alex's Mom and Dad!! Love you...Liz
