Holding pattern

Ok...so I just had a nice long update that took me about 20 mins to type, only to hit "publish" and get an error. I hit "back" and it was gone. Arg!

So today's been a pretty rough day. Alex was up all night last night fussing and seeming to be in pain. When we got in this morning they were about to give her a bit of morphine to console her. It seemed to the nurses and the NICU doc that her head was bigger, and the ultrasound came back as "moderate to severe hydrocephalus." Shunt likely, but needed to wait on Dr. Handler to make the call. Not exactly a good start to the day.

The morphine seemed to work, she's been sleeping all day in Mommy's arms. Day's getting better. Then Dr. Handler came in and told us everything looked normal, and that he didn't think her fussiness was from her fluid. But just as a precaution he tentatively scheduled her shunt surgery for Monday, with orders for more monitoring.

So we continue to wait some more. :-

PS - We've noticed that not many people are posting comments today. Please keep letting us know you're here - we're constantly checking to hear from you.

You, Nicole and Alex, is all I think about all day. You can catch me praying when I should be working. But they understand when they see me just staring into space or I just have a blank look on my face. Everyone at work is praying for Alex too,and want to know how she is doing I try to keep them up to date too. Just know that my thoughts are with you all. My prays are for you all. Thanks for keeping us all up to date.. I look foward to holding and spoiling the little angel as I know your dad will too..

Love you all

Silly Blogspot. Someone needs to fix that thing.

Sorry you had a rough day. Your emotional rollercoaster is always on our minds. I showed Zoe a picture of Alex and she stared intently. I assume she was directing her thoughts and prayers towards a speedy recovery for Alex!

BTW, Eltiste offered to drive to your house and deliver some dinner. I told him it would get cold by the time you got it considering you live in DENVER. But the thought was cool.

Peace - Andy

Sorry to hear you all had a challenging day, just want you to know we are still here! The three of you are my first thought every morning, I go directly to the computer and check for any new news! Then I continue to check countless times throughout my day and then it is one of the last things I do at night! I share all the news with Kylie, Paul and Rachel and usually Rachel has seen the blog already so we just talk about how sweet and amazing Alex is! Kylie is so excited to see the pics of little Alex. I call Grandma Al everyday and share any news with her too (since she has no computer.) I always want to blog, but everyones words are so perfect and wonderful! Mine are so simple, but I could not resist letting you know what an impact the three of you have had on all of us. Your words, and you three are so inspiring, you have no idea how powerful your thoughts and words have been and continue to be. Keep the updates (and adorable pics of that sweet baby Alex) coming our way and we will continue sending all of our good thoughts and prayers your way!

Love you three lots!

Hey sweet family,
I have been unable to check the website until now and was anxious to get on and see for myself what was going on, even though Josh had filled me in! As I was reading several blogs I remembered when we were first getting to know you guys. Nic, how you were still really delving into faith and who God was. Who you have become in Christ from that moment to now is so astounding. You have walked with faith and courage through some very challenging times, probably not realizing how much faith and trust in a God we can't see and often question, you actually have. (and the impact you make as you choose to walk by faith) Praying for all three of you tonight. That the Lord will relieve her pain, give her sweet rest, and supernaturally strengthen and encourage you both as you sleep. You are loved!

I find myself checking several times during the day to see if there are new posts - apparantly checked last evening just before you posted the last update. Glad to hear that she is resting better. I forward all info to our SS at church and many, many are praying from Tulsa for the three of you. You are surrounded in prayer by God's people but most importantly, you are being held in HIS hands as you travel this road. Jimmy & Nicole,

Sometime we move forward; sometimes life takes us back a step; sometimes we just wait - all are differnet directions we go in life. In the future as you look back on this time, you will see that the major movement was forward - foward in your faith in God; forward in your care for Alex - forward in the encouragement you give to the rest of us for dealng with the tough times in life.

As I check each day for updates, it is like I have additional kids to pray for - that is good for you and it is a delight for me.
We are out here and we are praying. Our pryaer is for God's will, God's glory, Alex's health and your growth.

Keep on keepin' on and keep on goin' with God

Nicole & Jimmy,

I just wanted to you guys to know TJ & I have been, and will continue to pray for you guys. I was reading through some of the blogs, and was reminded of a song I sang in Sunday school when I was little:

"This Little Light of Mine"

This little light of mine
I'm gonna let it shine;
This little light of mine
I'm gonna let it shine;
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

Thank you for sharing your "little light" with us, I know I'm seeing God a little more clearly.

Paul gave us the "blog" info, when he told us of Hope's arrival, I am not good at it, but good enough to check every day on your news. All seem to call her Alex, but HOPE is she to us, as you 2 are the FAITH and LOVE....We are inspired by your thoughts and words, The Lord has blessed all of us, through you 3...I am sorry for any pain any of you suffer, and our prayers continue for you, for the strength you need. You are ALL beautiful people...John and Marsha.

Hello to Denver

I love the picture with the grandmothers (Hi Sis). As she will confirm, I work on the computer all day long and am not fond of getting on one when I get home. However the blogspot is blocked at work, so I can't check during the day. That doesn't mean that you're not in my thoughts and prayers, as well as my co-workers who are also very good friends. I have several of them that have visited this site to catch up on what's going on(they adore the picture of Nic and Alex) and others that are sending prayers your way. BTW tell my SIS that "the heat is on" in Tulsa....the temperature is forecasted to be 100 or above the next week or so while she in sitting "cool(er)" in Denver.
Stay strong in your faith; at some future time I'll share the two times in my life that I received an immediate answer to a prayer (it was when your Grandma and Grandpa Cate were terminal at the same time). The term "love hugs & rainbows" also came from that period in my life; your Uncle Jim was the "rainbow" that God sent to help me thru those rough days.
Love hugs & rainbows

Jimmy and Nicole
I had a burden to post a word of thanks this morning. Thanks to all who have taken even a moment to jot a word of encouragement to Jimmy and Nicole. As someone else posted earlier, it is easy to be hesitant to post because you feel like you need to be profound or deep or unique. Believe me, this feeling is likely multiplied for me, being a pastor type and all. But I just want to affirm everyone who has posted in support of this beautiful family and beautiful girl. Know that your thoughts and prayers of support are precious to Jimmy and Nicole - and if you'll take a moment to express them in a comment, it will mean even more.
Of course the Diffee's are drawing their strength from the only true Source, but sometimes (often) He chooses to use us as His instruments.
Also, I want to thank the Diffee's for sharing the journey - I know I could just read the blog out loud on Sunday morning and it would be a more powerful sermon than anything I would bring (not sure how that would go over, though).

Thanks

Pastor Dean

Aunt Nadine, your post was from the heart and so sweet. Thanks for sharing with grandma as well. We love you guys and look foward to hearing from you each and every day. Alex will look back on this someday and see how she was surrounded by so much love when she entered into this world.
