"Day 2" of Alex's recovery

This is a long waiting period. Alex is on her belly, not supposed to really move from her position for 3 days after surgery. I think she's a little irritated by it, because she keeps trying to turn her head over, which isn't good. You can't see it in this pic, but she has a small tube coming out of her head where the excess fluid can drain, until the Neurosurgeon goes back to put the shunt in. She also keeps trying to pull the breathing tube out of her mouth, or at least that's how it seems, because she likes to have her hand by her face, and keeps making a little fist.

But her breathing's been much better than I wrote last night, and the doc just informed me that they're now taking her off the pain medication and testing whether she will breathe on her own. If so, looks like the tube will come back out, but they want to be sure this time.

All in all, she's doing great. The docs & nurses keep telling us that. Last night was probably harder on Mom and Dad than it actually was on Alex. But it's a new day, and we just keep praying for her. We're most looking forward to 2pm, when they will change her bedding. That's when Mom will get to hold her skin-to-skin again, which is something that no mother should ever take for granted. A situation like this teaches you to appreciate even the most basic things, like holding your baby. Something we patiently await.

Maybe in another 24 hours, Daddy will get to hold her. He hopes so.

Just checking in on baby Alex. The family is keeping tabs on you all and praying for you. If there is anything at all I can do for you besides pray, just name it and I will be there. I love you and pray for God to give you supernatural strength for these difficult times. So happy Alex is doing well.

Love, Nita (Ft.Wth)

Hello friends,
Know that you and your sweet baby Alex are always on our minds. We are fighting this battle with you in spirit and prayer. Even though I've said this to you too many times to count now, and I know you know....if you need anything at all please let us know. Even if that is an out-of-tune seranade from outside your hospital window we would be happy to oblige. We love you guys and can't wait to meet that little fighter! She's doing great, what great things God has in store for her. And, we are going to pass your blog onto our parents who will spread the word in their home churches! Much love and big hugs,
Claire (and Josh respectively :)

Hello Denver
I've been reading the updates and tried to let you know prayers are coming from Tulsa, but not sure I'm doing this right. She is an adorable baby girl and I know that prayers are also being sent down from above; Grandma Cate (Jimmy's Great-Grandmother) loved her girls because there were so very few of them.

Love hugs and rainbows

I'm still with you guys, reading along, weeping at the love expressed, smiling at the words of a proud papa... I am so glad little Alex's breathing has improved. Thank you for sharing this most joyous yet difficult time with us, and for letting us join in prayer with you for your beautiful little one. We love you. --Stephanie

Nicole and Jimmy - Little Alexandra is in our prayers - We can see from your updates that the Lord is teaching you above and beyond what you would have learned had the litte one been born without complications - He has a special plan for her as well as for the two of you-

Ps. 139

We will praise you, Lord, for Alex is fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works!

It is great to have the information to know how to pray, what can be celebrated, what testimonies have occured, how to encourage each of you, etc. through this. Thank you again Nicole and Jimmy for sharing this journey with those of us who love you and Precious Hope!

I love you!
