Setback

Apparently, I spoke too soon about Alex being ready to go home. The highway I take to go to the hospital was basically a parking lot this morning so I called Alex's nurse on my way there and I got the dreaded news that she had a rough night. They had to increase her O2 from 1/2 liter to 3 liters overnight because her oxygen levels kept dipping. The nurses had to deep suction her every 30 minutes and RT did the CPT treatments to help loosen up the secretions. This seemed to help but she continued to randomly desat all morning.

She had a chest x-ray earlier that showed a lot of air trapped in her stomach (prob due to the increased O2) and the docs think it could be contributing to her lungs being crowded so they just placed a small ventilation tube into her stomach (via her nose). She's napping peacefully right now and doing ok with a little less oxygen then this morning. We found out that she has rhinovirus which causes the common cold - in most cases. We are feeling a little discouraged and just hope our baby girl turns the corner soon and can come home where she belongs.

I am so sorry you landed in the hospital again. We'll keep Alex in our thoughts and prayers--and you two as well, as I'm sure you tired.

We can't begin to know what you're going through. It has to be the hardest burden to bear when it involves a child especially one as young as Alex. Nicole, Jimmy and Alex, you are blessings to our church community in steadfastly and consistently showing courage and faith. You are perfect examples of living in faith as your church family prays for you and cheers you on. We mourn when you mourn and soon we will all be able to rejoice with you when Alex is healed and home with you. I pray that "your faith will not fail". Please be encouraged. God says he knows his thoughts toward us, thoughts of peace, to prosper us and to give us an expected end. God is faithful. It's amazing how God can use a little child like Alex to teach all of us life lessons as she continues to fight and as you, her parents suffer through watching this happen to your child and you still maintain your faithfulness, trust in our Father, and God's marvelous light is able to shine through you and this trial with an unwavering glory that will surely touch everyone who is blessed enough to encounter your family. We love and support you more than you know.
